Journey with us on the “Puffing Billy”– Australia’s favourite steam train and one of the finest preserved steam train in the world. Chuff along the narrow-gauge track through the Dandenong Ranges National Park featuring 100 metres tall mountain ash forests, and fern-gullies.  Dangle your feet outside in the open carriages and experience the sights, smells and sounds of the bush as Puffing Billy trundles across trestle bridges and toils up hills.

We stop for a delightful and hearty spit-roast lunch and wine-tasting in the spectacular Yarra Valley wine district region. 

After lunch, we get up close and personal to some amazing Australian native animals at the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary.

HIGHLIGHTS: 
Our tour takes us from the city highways to the Belgrave village shopping strip where you will see everywhere muriels of the trades gone-by.

We arrive at Belgrave Station, home base for the Puffing Billy Steam railway where we board the historic steam train - Puffing Billy – a major tourist attraction.  Take in the panoramic views which pass by your carriage window as the train travels through the forests of the magnificent Dandenong Ranges to Menzies Creek.

Be amazed at the 100 metres tall and 500 years old Mountain Ash trees, and fern gullies of the Sherbrooke Forest, habitat for the superb lyrebird, ring-tailed and brush-tailed possums.  You may be lucky to also sight koalas, lyrebirds, galahs, ring-tailed and brush-tailed possums, crimson rosellas, kookaburras, cicadas, blue wrens, echidnas, platypus and the blue wren.

The journey continues to provide panoramic views over farmlands, Port Phillip Bay, the Cardinia Reservoir and the Yarra Valley wine region.

You alight at Menzies Creek where you will be met by your friendly driver guide who will direct you to your coach waiting for you.

The next stop is for lunch at Fergussons Winery & Restaurant situated in the lush Yarra valley wine district.  Here you will taste some stunning local wines and then sit down to enjoy a sumptuous and hearty spit-roast lunch with a glass of wine in a warm and rustic atmosphere of the Restaurant. 

After lunch, we take you to the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary when you can view close-up 200 species of native wildlife and Australia’s most unusual animals (koalas, kangaroos, wombats and many others), birds, and reptiles.  You will enjoy an informative ranger-guided tour.

HIGHLIGHTS:
We start this tour to view close-up Australia’s most unusual animals, birds, and reptiles at Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary nestled in the foothills of the Yarra Valley.  Koalas, dingoes, kangaroos and the unique platypus are just a few of the 200 species of Australian wildlife flourishing in a beautiful environment of towering gum trees and lush tree ferns. You will enjoy a ranger guided tour and informative morning.

We leave the Sanctuary and head for Fergusson’s Winery & Restaurant in the lush Yarra Valley wine district.   Here we enjoy a superb spit-roast lunch with assorted vegetables and salads, and a glass of wine, tea/coffee and petit fours in a rustic and warm atmosphere.

After lunch, we travel through the Eastern suburbs to Melbourne city. 

We stop to take photos of the St. Patrick’s Cathedral – a splendid gothic revival architecture and then stroll through the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens where the pathways are designed to resemble the British flag – the Union Jack.  Here we inspect Capt. Cook’s Cottage - discoverer of the East Coast of Australia and walk through the Conservatory which holds regular floral exhibitions.

We drive past the Melbourne Sporting ArenasRod Laver Arena (home of the Australian Open), Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)- well-known and loved by cricket fans around the world, and Olympic Park/Lexus Stadium – home to Melbourne’s rugby team “Melbourne Storm”.
We see the architecture of Treasury Place, Parliament House and Australia’s most loved Princess Theatre where the record breaking “Phantom Of The Opera” was performed.
Marvel at the architecture of The Royal Exhibition Building which for 27 years housed the State Parliament. Adjacent to the Exhibition Building is the enormous Melbourne Museum and Imax Cinema.
We drive through the Italian precinct in Carlton where the city’s famous café culture was born and is one of the great food precincts in Melbourne.  Travel via Australia’s largest and oldest market The Queen Victoria Market and pass the historic and Melbourne’s oldest gardens - Flagstaff Gardens.  

Melbourne’s legal precinct is where during the week you may see a number of barristers and judges around.  We sight the Rialto Towers (the tallest office building in the Southern Hemisphere), and Eureka Towers – the 300 metres skyscraper, and world-class Crown Entertainment Complex – a casino and entertainment precinct.
Finally we head back to Station Pier to board your ship.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Travel along the Eastern Freeway through the outer eastern suburb of Croydon at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, and Lilydale - at one-time, home to the great Australian opera diva Dame Nellie Melba, who as a child lived with her family at their country home in Lilydale.

Our route continues along acres of lush grazing pastures, orchards and award-winning wineries that represent the region’s international reputation for super-premium cool climate wines – the Yarra Valley.

We arrive at the Hall of Fame winners for Best Winery and Tourism Complex - Yering Station, Victoria’s first vineyard planted in 1838, where you can learn all about wine-sampling and taste some classic Australian wines.

We continue along Melba Highway passing the township of Yarra Glen, a pretty little town in the heart of the Yarra Valley and home to some of the best known wineries in Victoria.  We head towards Dixon Creek where you pass the historic Gulf Station (pioneer farm) run by the National Trust.

Still on the Melba towards Dixon’s Creek we travel to Fergusson Winery and Restaurant to taste some stunning red and white wines, and then enjoy a superb sumptuous spit-roast lunch with a glass of wine, assorted vegetables and salads, petit fours and coffee/tea in a homely atmosphere in the rustic award-winning restaurant.

Finally we head to Melbourne City to take in its highlights.
